Mindscapes

In these images, as in Indelible, I have projected drawings onto the landscape of Joshua Tree National Park to convey how a certain thought or idea can sometimes take hold of our mind rendering it barren and unable to hold any others. In the series, Sekaa’s performance represents her emotional response to certain ideas and concepts that we reflected on collaboratively: The idea of the “male savior”, the insatiable male gaze, the mainstream standards of beauty, those corners of our mind that we just can’t reach, our obsession with how we present ourselves to the world, the constellation of archetypes that keeps our own expression of self centered… or constrained? Everything in the image happens in camera, in a single long exposure.
